About us
What We Do
Acqua Garden is an independent plants and garden products business, based in Warwickshire. We are a modern company providing beautiful plants and other products through online sales channels. We offer fast delivery and seek to provide the best customer service possible. We love our customers. And we are all keen gardeners too.
Gardening is such a wonderful, rewarding and relaxing activity and our central mission is to make gardening and growing fun, accessible and easy for everyone.
Who We Are
We are a small team of plant enthusiasts, dedicated to providing not just wonderful products to our customers but an experience. And we love what we do.
An Inclusive Business
Many are lucky enough to have large gardens and large houses, with all the possibilities these offer.
Many, however, live in smaller spaces, particularly in towns and cities. Of some 28 million households in the UK, over 6 million are flats and apartments. And the proportion is growing, particularly in urban areas. Those living in smaller spaces have been largely overlooked and ignored by the traditional garden products companies. We are different.
We want to serve the needs of all, regardless of where our customers live. And regardless of their experience, ability or time.
So, we aim to provide plants and other products suited to all lifestyles and locations, to the needs of our customers. Whether they live in a large detached house with acres of land or a top floor apartment in the heart of the city, with little or even no outside space at all. And everything in between!
We also embrace our customers who have other challenges such as those with a disability or mobility issues, those suffering from some form of mental illness or other day to day challenges, which make gardening or even getting out to a garden centre difficult or impossible.
Gardening and growing plants have been shown to have many positive benefits in areas from depression and loneliness, to dementia and autism. Acqua Garden wants to make gardening available to people who would otherwise be unable to participate in this rewarding and engaging pastime, and thereby to make a contribution to alleviating some of these issues.
We do this by providing plants of all types and sizes, pots and planters suited to all environments, growing kits and space saving growing systems, nutrients and easy to use tools, and simple guidance. All backed up by our team, ready to help whenever needed.
Our Founder
For almost 30 years, Jonathan Martin, our founder and CEO, worked as an international corporate lawyer.
Always a keen gardener and having grown up in the countryside, he decided to try something completely different - but related to the things he had always loved. He became an inventor and an entrepreneur - and set about building the business, drawing on his experience and resources, and driven by his vision. This has led to Acqua Garden.
Jonathan's belief that we can all make a difference by how we live and what we eat has been the driving force behind the development of Acqua Garden.
The Grow Your Own Revolution!
Central to our story is our goal of providing the means for all to grow and consume more nutritional food. By providing plants and products which enable the growing of fresh produce at home, wherever people live.
Produce rapidly loses its nutritional content from the point of harvest and this is generally highly depleted by the time of purchase from a supermarket or other outlet. We are enabling the growing of produce at home, as well as by restaurants, schools, workplaces, care homes - in fact, pretty much anywhere.
With only a short time from plant to plate, the vitamin, mineral and other nutritional content of the produce then consumed is unbeatable. And the flavours are amazing!
By growing your own, you can also avoid supermarket single use plastic packaging, which is choking our oceans and destroying species. You’ll also avoid all the toxic chemicals sprayed with apparent abandon over the food you’re then expected to eat.
Reducing our carbon footprints
Modern techniques for growing, packaging and delivering food are huge contributors to the world's carbon footprint. Growing your own produce helps to reduce your impact on the environment. Food transportation is a major cause of pollution and, we believe, climate change. Reducing food miles is imperative.
Plants are very commonly in compost that includes high levels of peat, the major ingredient in most compost you might buy at your garden centre. Peat usage is hugely detrimental to our planet. Our precious peat bogs are the largest single contributor to carbon sequestration, estimated at twice the impact of all of the world’s forests. The peat bogs have been hugely depleted, reducing the good they do. Moreover, when peat is harvested, it releases its captured carbon. So a double impact.
Using coconut coir or other peat-free composts avoids all of this. Leaving our precious peat bogs to do what they do so well, storing carbon and reducing the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere.
